VADODARA: A 15-day-old girl child, who was left motherless a day after her birth on August 3, not only got a new mother, but a whole family of new parents and also a brother on Friday.
Anand district development officer (DDO) Amit Prakash Yadav and wife Chitra Yadav, who serves as chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Anand district court, have
adopted the child. It was a happy coincidence for Yadav, who, as a part of DDO’s duty, has to visit every community health centre (CHC) and public health centre (PHC) in case of death of a woman during delivery. He got a call on August 3 from the medical superintendent of Vasad CHC informing about the girl child’s deteriorating condition due to which she needed to be shifted to the state-run SSG Hospital in Vadodara.
The mother, who was having her third child, died before she could reach Vadodara. Neither the baby’s father nor any member of the family could reach Vadodara due to the heavy rains that had lashed the city and the region on July 31.
“I was informed that the baby had not taken any food for 14 hours! I talked to my wife who got ready to breastfeed the baby,” said Yadav, adding that his wife got emotionally attached to the little one immediately.
“We talked to the child’s father and the family asking if they agreed for mutual adoption process. It was only after they agreed, that we completed the legal course on Friday,” Yadav added. The Yadav’s carried out the legal process under the provisions of the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act 1956.
Interestingly, Yadav’s already have a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was also delivered at government facility at Sarsa CHC. Instead of choosing a private hospital, the couple preferred to deliver their first-born at a government facility.
“Now, our family is complete. Our entire attention is focused on her and her weight is also increasing,” said Yadav, an IAS from 2013 batch.
