BISALPUR (TONK): Nine people have drowned in Bisalpur dam while taking selfies in an inebriated condition or while strolling on the sidewall of the dam near a temple.
Though there are guards, technicians, engineers present at the site throughout the day, the dam had become a death trap for many.
Dam authorities had written to police and the local administration to ensure minimal entry of people at the site especially during heavy rainfall, the request fell into deaf ears.
“Some of our staff is engaged as guards while some are into opening and inspecting the gauges. With a footfall of over 2,000 people on a rainy day, it becomes difficult for us to keep an eye on every visitor. Thus, many a times, people either in an inebriated condition or over enthisiatic, try some sort of misadventure and get drowned,” said a senior officer at the dam.

Police authorities said despite warning signboards, people continue to venture too close to the dam and risk their lives.
“Many a times we have saved youngsters who tried to get too close to the dam. However, since the area is so large, it is not easy for us to keep an eye on each individual. And if we stop people going closer to the dam, they often get into confrontation. I think the administration should disallow entry of public especially during monsoon,” said Bhagwan Singh, chowki in-charge of Bisalpur.
