Pune: Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao, on Wednesday, appreciated the efforts taken by the city police in reaching out to people through the Service Excellence and Victim Assistance  (SEVA) initiative. He was present for an event at Symbiosis college on Senapati Bapat Road.

Speaking at the event, Rao said that with the help of a number of citizen-friendly initiatives, Maharashtra police and Pune police have created their mark on a global platform.

“These initiatives have helped police officials in serving citizens in a better way and also to control crime. Going ahead, handling social media and technology will be a challenge for the police department, which they should try to overcome. A large women force is joining the service in the government and private fields. This workforce is capable of taking sensitive decisions,” added Rao.

Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, Police Chief K Venkatesham, MP Girish Bapat and other dignitaries were present for the event. The SEVA initiative of Pune police, has received a good response from residents. According to recent data shared by Pune Police Commissionerate, out of the 1.05 lakh residents called for feedback, 1.01 lakh people had something good to say about the department.

At least 300 students under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) were involved in the Service Excellence and Victim Assistance initiative to invite visitors to police stations and get their feedback. The SEVA application was started on September 1, 2018.

Under the Seva system, a police constable has been entrusted to note details of every person visiting police station. The constable is given a tablet to feed the names, phone numbers and photos of the visitors. Using the data, a team in Camp calls every person to know about their experience and whether they are satisfied with the services. At least 300 residents are called for feedback every day. The objective is to take feedback of residents within seven days of their visit to any of the police station and knowing whether their issues are resolved or not.
