The most awaited festival for the siblings Raksha Bandhan to mark the sharing of love, care and bliss among siblings was celebrated with fervor on Thursday. The festival was celebrated with big zeal throughout the city. It’s time for brother-sister unconditional love highlighting the occasion of festival of siblings. The lovely bond of sisters and brothers will be shared on the day. On this day, women and girls dressed in their traditional and beautiful dresses were seen enroute to their brothers’ homes, since early morning.
They tied a thread of love and life-long bond on the wrists of their brothers, in return to which brothers presented gifts and money as a token of love along with the promise of protecting them lifelong. The preparations for the festival were in swing for long across the State capital. The shopping and home preparations, including preparations of sweets and snacks, were started at homes. Sweet shops of the city are crowded with people as everyone wanted to buy first and the favourite sweet for their dear brothers.
People were seen in large numbers busy shopping for the day. City markets were decked up with designer and beautiful Rakhis from cartoon character Rakhis to pearl and gold Rakhis. Huge crowd were witnessed in shops. Even the pre-Rakhi celebration was also held in the schools and educational institutes highlighting the importance of the pious festivals.
Some of the girls of the schools also visited jail for tying Rakhis on the wrists of inmates, disseminating the message of brotherhood, harmony and sister-brother unconditional bond. Raksha Bandhan occupies a special place in the Hindu tradition. It is the festival to reaffirm the treasured bond of love and care between brothers and sisters. It is festival, symbolic of love between a brother and a sister, is celebrated with fervour and gaiety among people. Mamta Khare, student of Barkatullah University, says “Rakhi is the special thread, which ties a special bond between a sister and brother.
I have always been so excited for this festival and this time also, the excitement is the same. I have purchased sweets and cartoon character Rakhi for my dear brother, as Raksha Bandhan is a festival of gifts, happiness and joy. Also, my brother plans something special every year for me so I am eager to know what I would be getting on this Raksha Bandhan.” While Poonam says, “Raksha Bandhan is a festival, where not only the blood relation matters for mem but also other strong and unconditional bond I have cherished for last few years with my Rakhi brother. This year also, I have made a special Rakhi for him which I would be tying on his wrist.” So, it is the day for the sisters and brothers, which will be celebrated the whole day.
