Rivers, dams and streams are in spate due to continuous heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh. During the last 24 hours, heavy rains have been received in many parts of the state. 200 mm rainfall has been received in Jabalpur, 67 mm in Bhopal, 121.6 mm in Guna, 108 mm in Shajapur. Life has been severely affected due to heavy rains. Three people have died in two days.
Due to heavy rains, the Upper Lake in Bhopal has overflowed, due to which four gates had to be opened on Thursday night. If the rains continue, the gates of Kaliasot Dam will also be opened. At the same time, 16 gates of Rajghat Dam have been opened in Ashoknagar. For the first time in three years, all 11 gates of Tawa Dam had to be opened.
Several parts of the state, including the capital, were cloudy on Friday and it is also raining. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the formation of low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, in the next 24 hours, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 40 districts of the state. The department has predicted a decrease in rain activities from August 16 and 17.
Rains started in Bhopal on Thursday which continued till noon. Bhopal received 20.4 mm of rainfall. Last night it received 13.9 mm of water. Bhopal has received 1014.9 mm of rain since June 1, 317.7 mm above normal. Light drizzle has been recorded since Friday morning in Bhopal. On Wednesday, 16 of the 18 gates of the Rajghat Dam in the Chanderi tehsil of Ashoknagar district were opened as the Betwa river is in spate. Due to the sinking of the bridge between Chanderi in MP and Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh, the road connectivity in both the states has been broken.
A tanker filled with kerosene has been swept away in the torrential stream of Kachhed drain near Bokramar village of Jaitpur police station in Shahdol district. The driver also swept away along with the tanker, and there is no information about him yet. Divers arriving from Shahdol in the morning are searching for the driver, but could not find him.

The Axis of Monsoon Trough is running from West Rajasthan to Northeast Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. Another Trough is extending from Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area to North Gujarat across Rajasthan. An off-shore Trough is running from Karnataka to the Kerala coast. A Western Disturbance is over Afghanistan and adjoining North Pakistan.
Rains and light showers likely in maximum places
As the sky is replete with thick cover of dark black clouds, people are hoping that incessant rains can take place any time in state capital.
In the meantime, Weather Department has issued warning of heavy to very heavy rains in some places of Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Agar, Shajapur, Dewas, Bhopal, Raisen, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Guna, Shivpuri, Ashok Nagar, Sheopurkalan, Hoshangabad, Betul, Harda, Indore, Dhar, Khandwa, Chhattarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Katni, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Anuppur, Dindori, Satna districts respectively.
The Weather Department forecast adds that rains and light showers are likely in maximum places of Rewa, Satna, Singrauli, Anuppur, Dindori, Umaria, Shahdol, Sheopurkalan, Bhind, Morena, Datia, Guna, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Ashok Nagar, Panna, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Chhattarpur, Bhopal, Raisen, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Hoshangabad, Betul, Harda, Ujjain, Neemuch, Ratlam, Shajapur, Dewas, Mandsaur, Agar, Indore, Dhar, Khandwa, Khargone, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Badwani, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Katni districts etc.
During the next 24 hours, Active Monsoon conditions are likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, few places of Punjab, Haryana and Northeast Rajasthan along with Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, South Konkan, and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Normal Monsoon conditions are likely to prevail over West Bengal, Sikkim, parts of Assam, eastern parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, Odisha, parts of Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu along with North Kerala. Whereas Monsoon will remain Subdued over remaining all parts of the country.
