NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday framed charges against expelled BJP MLA
Kuldeep Singh Sengar, thereby paving the way for his trial for allegedly raping a minor girl in
Unnao in 2017.
Days after the
Supreme Court shifted the trial to Delhi and fast-tracked proceedings, district judge Dharmesh Sharma framed charges against Sengar and his accomplice Shashi Singh for kidnapping and raping the girl, who was only 17 at the time of the crime. The girl is at present battling for her life at
AIIMS Delhi after being critically injured in a road accident in UP.
Sengar will face trial under sections of Pocso Act, apart from IPC sections 376 (rape), 120b (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), among others. Sengar’s accomplice Singh will face trial for allegedly luring the girl into Sengar’s residence on June 4, 2017, on the pretext of getting her a job. Once at his home, Sengar allegedly raped the girl.
