Ludhiana: Rains lashed various parts of the city on Friday bringing in the much needed respite for residents after days of sultry weather. The total rainfall recorded in the city was 10 mm.
The rainfall also saw a dip in the temperatures, the maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 30 degrees, which is three degrees lower than normal. In comparison the temperature in the city was recorded at 35.7 degrees which was three degrees more than normal. The relative humidity in city on Friday was recorded around normal at 84%.
The met department has predicted pleasant weather for the next two days moderate rainfall as well. The official website of the department has indicated maximum day temperature to rise to 35 degrees by Monday, and estimated at 32 degrees on Wednesday. The night temperature is expected to remain between 24 and 26 degrees till next Thursday.
The residents meanwhile are enjoying the change in the temperatures and are welcoming the rains. “I enjoy the monsoon because of the reduced temperatures after the scorching heat of the summer,” said Gurjot Kaur, a student of Model Town. She said that she was happy as even her garden was in full bloom with a variety of flowers. Others too agree that the pleasant weather does come with difficulties as well. Pointing out at some of the difficulties, residents say that this was also the weather for diseases. “The breeding of mosquitoes happen in this season and there are no measures from the administration to take preventive steps.” Said Kaur. Agreeing with Kaur, another resident of Atam Nagar Saloni said, “This is the season when children fall sick due, they are affected by stomach infection, and diseases like dengue and malaria are a regular feature in most households.” Despite the drawbacks residents maintain that monsoon was still a season for festivals and gave a feel of comfort as well.
