CHENNAI: The city is seeing an increase in day temperature while ghat areas of the state and neighbouring Kerala and Karnataka are receiving abnormally heavy
rain.
There was no trace of rain in the city and its suburbs on Friday and the maximum temperature was 37.2°C, which is 1.7°C higher than it was on Thursday.
A
Met department forecast says that the city may get only light rain.
"The sky condition will be generally cloudy," said the forecast.
Nights are also getting warmer. The city recorded above 30°C till 6.30pm on Friday. The mercury level usually dips well below 30°C by 5.30 pm or 6pm.
A Met department official said, "The day temperature is high because the sky is partly cloudy. We have experienced low temperature when the sky is cloudy in the morning. This was the reason the day temperature was not high in the last few days. But that was not the case today."
The evenings were also warmer because
sea breeze was also setting in late, he added. However, Met department said heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over ghat areas of Theni, Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts.
