Gurgaon: Criminals broke into an
office of Haryana City
Gas (HCG) in Sushant Lok 1 on Friday, hacked a security
guard to death and escaped with cash and other documents, police said.
Police said two persons, wearing helmets, entered the HCG office at around 12.30 am on Friday. They broke the CCTV camera installed in the office, dragged the security guard to a vacant plot adjacent to the office building and killed him. They then went to the finance department situated on the first floor, broke the gates and fled with the cash.
The deceased man has been identified as Sumit alias Sunny (22) from UP. Rajkumar, another security guard posted at the HCG office in the morning shift, said, “When I reached office at 8.15 am on Friday, I did not find Sumit in the guard room. Rakesh, a housekeeping staffer, was sitting outside the office.”
Rakesh, according to Rajkumar, had no idea about Sumit’s whereabouts. He said that he had reached at 8am and was waiting for the guard. The main gate of the office was open.
The HCG office has a small wooden cabin constructed for the security guards. Sumit and Rajkumar used to work from the cabin in morning and night shifts, respectively.
“Rakesh told me Sumit was not in the cabin. We noticed that someone had broken the CCTV camera, which is installed outside the office,” said Rajkumar, adding that they went around the office and found the CCTV cameras installed inside the office were also broken.
Rajkumar then called on Sumit’s mobile phone. “We heard the ringing of a phone coming from a vacant plot adjacent to the office building. We rushed there and found Sumit lying in a pool of blood,” said Rajkumar. He informed the police and senior officials of HCG.
HCG officials rushed to the spot and found around Rs 1.5 lakh cash, a few cheque books and other documents missing from the finance department of the office. A case was registered at Sector 29 police station against unknown persons under sections 302 (murder) and 382 (Theft after preparation made for causing death) of the IPC.
“Some of the footage captured by the cameras show two persons getting inside the office. Their faces are covered with helmets,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
