How you can add THOUSANDS to the value of your property: Couple completely transform their family home into their dream house in just 18 months - with spectacular results

  • Glen and Rachael Quinn purchased an 850m block of land with an older house on it and bought it for $870k
  • The Brisbane-based couple had a goal of transforming the home into a modern coastal Queenslander
  • In just 18 months they revolutionised the enormous space and are now looking to sell it for $1.65m
  • Their favourite part of the home is the living/dining/kitchen area because there are four metre high ceilings

Glen and Rachael Quinn would regularly walk their dog past 98 Plimsoll Street in Queensland, quietly admiring the huge corner block and hoping it would one day be up for sale.

So when it finally did the Brisbane-based pair were first in line at the auction, picking up the 850 metre property for $870,000.

'It is incredibly rare to find a block this size that is only eight minutes drive from the Brisbane CBD,' Glen, 38, told FEMAIL.

New beginnings! Glen and Rachael Quinn would regularly walk their dog past 98 Plimsoll Street, quietly admiring the huge corner block and hoping it would one day come on the market

'Our goal was to transform the home into a modern coastal Queenslander that was authentic to our tropical climate and provide relaxed, private resort-style living.'

They immediately got to work on the renovation, with the living, bathroom and outdoor areas needing a serious revamp and paint job.

'We were inspired to create a home that was authentic to Brisbane and showcased the sheer size of the 850m block,' he said.

Out with the old: 'It is incredibly rare to find a block this size that is only eight minutes drive from the Brisbane CBD,' Glen, 38, told FEMAIL

'We wanted a home that was a coastal style (or as we say "light and bright") with a balance of indoor and outdoor living areas.'

The house now consists of open and broken plan living (separating some spaces like the master bedroom from the kids' bedroom), with an enormous entertaining area and garage, all while keeping the lush green garden largely untouched.

There is French oak timber flooring throughout with matching light wood furniture set against pristine white walls.

Bedrooms have been rearranged to make the most of the natural light and windows

'You can enjoy the beautiful green neighbourhood and the quietness of the suburb and then in less than 10 minutes you are in the city,' he said.

But transforming a house doesn't happen overnight and the family spent 18 months working on plans with the architect, problem solving with the builder and submitting proposals to the council.

'The hardest part was making so many decisions,' he said. 'We were very hands on working with our architect and builder and we chose every single tile, tap, handle and paint colour.

'We were relentless with our research and worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was in line with our theme and vision for the home.'

One of the easiest decisions they made was buying into the area because the Quinn's find it to be a 'fantastic location'.

'It is close to great primary and high schools, shops and public transport. It's an elevated block with great views a catches the breezes all year round. It was easy to decide on the overall look and feel we wanted to achieve for this renovation,' he said.

Their favourite room is the living, dining and kitchen areas, which make up the 'heart of the home' where the family spend the majority of their time together.

With four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study, multiple living areas and an outdoor entertaining space overlooking a generous backyard, the property is now finished and up for sale with offers starting at $1.65 million

'This space is framed with a raked ceiling that is 4.5m at it's highest and looks out floor to ceiling glazing across 270m of backyard and our two mango trees.'
