Suicide pact: Man dies, wife critical

Ludhiana: A 30-year-old man died whereas his wife is battling for life after the couple allegedly consumed poison following a fighting with each other in Khanna.
Police said the man, identified as Bhinder Singh of Model Town, Samrala road, and his wife Gagandeep Kaur had serious matrimonial issues and had been fighting over the same for the past few days.
Police officials said on Wednesday night, things turned worst between the couple and they consumed some poisonous substance in a fit of anger.
Cops said at the time of the incident, Bhinder’s family members had gone to a religious function. After they returned, they saw the couple dying and took them to a private hospital in Khanna from where the doctors referred them to Civil Hospital in Khanna.
They added that relatives of the couple admitted them to a hospital in Doraha where Bhinder breathed his last whereas his wife’s condition is serious.
Sub-inspector Labh Singh, SHO, Khanna City-1 police station, said they have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC into the matter. He added that Bhinder and his wife lived with his brothers in the same house.
Police officials said the couple didn’t have a child. They said Bhinder earlier worked as a driver of a government official, but after the official retired, Bhinder started drive private vehicles.
