Floods LIVE Updates: All schools, colleges shut in Karnataka; train services disrupted in Kerala

Live updates of the floods in various parts of the country. Red alert has been issued in four districts of Kerala. Parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra are witnessing floods after heavy rains

  • JUST IN | Three youth swept away in floodwater at Appanapalle village in Mamidikuduru mandal in East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh; one rescued, two missing. Rescue operation underway.

  • Update: Train services disrupted in Kozhikode after waterlogging on tracks near Feroke, CNN News18 has reported. 

  • Update | Karnataka: 

    Holiday has been declared till August 15 in all schools and colleges – both government and private – in the following districts :

    # Uttar Kannada
    # Raichur
    # Bagalkot
    # Belagavi
    # Chikkodi
    # Shivamogga
    # Bidar
    # Haveri
    # Kodagu
    # Koppal
    # Yadgir
    # Kalabuargi
    # Dharwad
    # Ballari
    # Hassan
    # Udupi
    # Gadag

  • CMO Maharashtra tweeted: Maharashtra Floods rescue operations update till 1 pm. Indian Air Force helicopter landed in Sangli and one more landing in few minutes.

    Total 34 teams are working in Kolhapur and 36 teams in Sangli. (These include NDRF, Navy, CoastGuard, SDRF etc).

  • Update | Kerala: Naval Air Base has been opened in Kochi for civil flights, The Indian Express has reported.  

    The move comes after the Nedumbassery airport was flooded and it's operations have been suspended till Sunday afternoon (August 11).

  • SN Pradhan, DG NDRF: In Karnataka, we are watching closely the districts of Belgaum, Kodagu and Uttara Kannada.

    In Kerala overall, the situation has not really deteriorated but there was an incident of landslide in Wayanad due to heavy rainfall.

    The states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala are main areas of concern now and maximum deployments of NDRF teams are in these states.

    In Maharashtra, districts of Sangli and Kolhapur are the matter of concern where there is severe flooding.

  • Update: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to conduct an aerial survey of the flood situation in the state, CNN News18 has reported.
