Odisha: Another low pressure forming over sea may bring rain after Aug 12

BHUBANESWAR: After August 12, Odisha may get more spells of rain under the impact of another low pressure area brewing over the sea.
India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, forecast that light to moderate rain or thunder-shower may occur at most places over the districts of north interior Odisha and at several other places of the state from Monday morning.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Jajpur and Bhadrak from the August 12 morning, said the IMD. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during next 48 hrs due to high waves and rough very rough condition of sea.
IMD Bhubaneswar director HR Biswas said rain will start after August 12 due to a low pressure area formed over the sea. Till then, most parts of the state may witness dry weather and less rainfall at a few places of the state. Places like Baripada (13.8mm), Malkangiri (7.8mm) Hirakud (4.6), Koraput (2 mm) and two other pockets received rainfall on Friday.
The low pressure, which was formed recently over the sea, has gradually moved towards central India. This low pressure induced rain created havoc in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal and a few parts of Gajapati, Balangir and Sambalpur districts. Three people were killed and one is missing due to flood like situation in these districts.

But normalcy returned to these districts after flood water receded. Hundreds of acres of crops have been damaged in the heavy rain. Thatched houses were also damaged in the areas. Power restoration work has been started.
Odisha has recorded nine per cent deficit rainfall till date. But the rain after August 12 may reduce the deficit rainfall in the state, IMD sources said.
