Plastic waste is being imported to India from over 25 countries on the ‘sly’. This claim has been made by an NGO Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Smriti Manch (PDUSM). The report claims over 1,21,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste was imported between April 2018 to February 2019. Over 55,000 MT of plastic waste is imported from Pakistan and Bangladesh alone. More than 19,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste is being imported in Delhi. Plastic import to India drastically increased after China banned plastic imports in 2018. India and Malaysia have emerged as top destinations for plastic waste dumping. This compounds India’s plastic waste problem. India generates over 25,000 tonnes of plastic waste every day and 40% of it remains uncollected. Given India's poor infrastructure, importing more waste worsens the situation. India has a major waste problem and we need to make people aware of it. SHARE THIS VIDEO AND SPREAD AWARENESS ON PLASTIC WASTE.
