KOLKATA: A 69-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping the 12-year-old daughter of his tenants on multiple occasions in the past six months. Police said the incident was reported from the Vidyasagar Park area under
Regent Park police station. Dipak Biswas was arrested hours after the survivor's mother lodged a written complaint against her landlord. The accused was produced at a special Pocso court on Thursday.
According to police, the accused used to call the girl to his residence in the absence of her parents and physically assault her. "He used all forms of bait - from coaxing to threats - to ensure the girl did not raise an alarm. In the end, he even tried to turn it into a regular affair, even offering financial incentive. It was only after she confided in her mother that the incident came to light," said an officer.
"We lodged a case under IPC 376 (3), pertaining to rape, and the stringent sections 4 and 6 of the
Pocso Act. The survivor was sent to MR Bangur Hospital for treatment. She is still under trauma and we are trying to provide her with mental support. We will get her statement recorded before a magistrate, for which we will place a prayer before court. Her statement will be vital to the investigation," said an officer.
