Over 2k people shifted in Bharuch due to heavy inflow in Narmada

Surat: At least 2,300 people were shifted to safer locations from different areas located on the banks of Narmada River in Bharuch district on Friday. Bharuch district administration sources said people in 14 villages on the banks of the river have been alerted due to increase in its water level. They have been asked to shift to safer locations as a preventive measure.
Official sources said the water level at Golden Bridge in Bharuch has reached 29 feet and may cross 31 feet by Friday night. People of low-lying areas of Dandia Bazaar and Furza in Bharuch have been alerted about the possibility of flash floods due to increase in the water level in Narmada.

They said 26 gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam have been opened and that water at the rate of 3 lakh cusecs was being released into the river. The water level of Sardar Sarovar Dam has reached 132 metres even as inflow of water from catchment areas of the dam has started to reduce in the last 24 hours.
District education officer of Bharuch has asked authorities of private and public schools and colleges to declare holiday as per their convenience looking at the safety of students on Saturday.
