How Pitso motivates players to come to Chloorkop

2019-08-09 11:09

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he motivates top players to join the club by promising them huge success in front of massive crowds.

Sundowns have signed a galaxy of stars in their ranks during Mosimane's time in charge and it has been behind so much of the success.

The cherry on the top of the ambitious recruitment by 'Jingles' was when they won the CAF Champions League in 2016, and subsequently took part in FIFA's Club World Cup.

Speaking of how he lands some of South Africa's best players, he told reporters: "I told (Sibusiso) Vilakazi come to Mamelodi Sundowns and you will win trophies.

"He has never won the league, but at Sundowns. I know you want to say Wits won the league, but he was not there. I said 'come to Sundowns and you will win trophies'. He was already in Bafana, but 'come to Sundowns and you will consolidate your place in Bafana'.

"I told him 'come to Mamelodi Sundowns and I can guarantee you will see 60 000 supporters against you in North Africa in the Champions League'. I told him he would play in full stadiums and you will see the best way of playing football and get tested. You have to write history about yourself in football.

"That's what I [also] Keagan Dolly. And the other thing I also said is 'come to Sundowns and you are going to play overseas' and 'come play for the best team in South Africa'. They must come here and test themselves, so that's what I say to the boys.

"They must feel how it is to lift the big trophy and take a picture. I said that to [Bongani] Zungu, Keagan [Dolly], Percy [Tau], Vila, Lebohang [Maboe]. They can tell their children they won the PSL trophy. So that's the way I have to recruit the boys.

"That's what they lose when they don't come [to Sundowns]. The day you are available, we have somebody from South America who is better than you. Can you replace Sirino? The chance is gone.

"That's why (Eden) Hazard fought [to leave Chelsea], that's why (Cesc) Fabregas took a pay cut to join Barcelona."
