College girl’s murder: Police recover bone, hair from boyfriend’s house

Tirupur: Police on Friday recovered a piece bone and hairs they believe belonged to a 19-year-old girl, who was allegedly murdered by her lover in Dharapuram here.
V Mutharasi of Kethampatti near Vedasandur in Dindigul had gone missing in March. Her elder sister Tamilarasi had lodged a missing case with the Vedasandur police on June 5. Inquiry revealed that she was murdered by her lover K Bharath of Athukalpudur in Kolathupalayam near Dharapuram. According to police sources, the girl had eloped with Bharath and he had beaten her to death following a quarrel.
“With the help of his mother Lakshmi and father Kanagaraj, Bharath first buried Mutharasi’s body on the backyard of their house. Their relative Kumarasamy, an astrologer, had warned them that the presence of the corpse would bring them bad luck. After Bharath married another woman, his parents along their relatives Subramani and Kumarasamy dug out the mortal remains and tried to burn them near Amaravathi river, but in vain. They later burnt them on the backyard itself,” said a police officer.

Vedasandur police had earlier arrested Bharath, Lakshmi and Kumar, who worked as the driver of a commercial vehicle owned by Bharath. Police on Thursday took Kanagaraj and Subramani in custody for two days. They searched Bharath’s house again on Friday and found a piece of bone and some hair, suspected to be of Mutharasi, from a pit on the backyard, apart from some ash. They also seized a car suspected to be used for transporting the body.
Kumarasamy is still at large.
