Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was on Friday admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) this morning.

Reports said Mr Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS's cardiology department for a medical check-up.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan were among those who have reached the hospital to visit the ailing BJP stalwart.

"Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable," the hospital said in a statement.

He had last year underwent dialysis at AIIMS. He also visited the US for a brief period for further treatment.

Arun Jaitley, 66, served as finance minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi government's first term between 20014-19. He had taken a three-month break from work to undergo a kidney transplant.

Earlier this year, he flew to the US for further treatment. In his place, Piyush Goyal had presented the government's Interim Budget in February this year before the Lok Sabha polls.

After the BJP-led NDA returned to power in May, Jaitley wrote to Modi, requesting the Prime Minister not to give him "any responsibility" on account of his ill health.
