Floods LIVE Updates: Rain fury in Kerala continues, death toll climbs to 23

Live updates of the floods in various parts of the country. Red alert has been issued in four districts of Kerala. Parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra are witnessing floods after heavy rains

  • Update (Kerala):

    India Meteorological Dept (IMD) issues Red alert for 9 districts of the state for today.

    Red alert issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts.

  • Kerala flood UPDATE | Landslide site at Bhoodanam in Nilambur, Malappuram. An entire hill has come down burying several houses. Everything has been wiped out. At least 40 people are missing. (CNN News18)

  • Kerala flood UPDATE | As heavy rains continued to batter various parts of Kerala, 23 people have lost their lives, CNN News18 has reported.

  • Maharashtra Minister lands in row over selfie videos during flood survey

    Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan stoked a controversy today after two selfie video clips surfaced purportedly showing him smiling and waving hands cheerfully as he surveyed parts of the flood-hit district.
    This prompted the opposition NCP to rebuke Mahajan. Questioning if the minister was on "tourism", the NCP asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to seek resignation of the "insensitive" water resources minister. (PTI)

  • Kerala flood UPDATE |  A total of 6 bodies have been recovered so far, from Meppadi in Wayanad district, where a landslide occurred yesterday. (ANI)

  • JD(S) legislators to donate one month's salary for relief work

    Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy announced that all legislators of his party would donate one month's salary for relief works in north Karnataka, reeling under the floods.
    Kumaraswamy said he was not able to visit floot-hit areas as he was down with fever, adding, he would tour the region in a day or two. (PTI)

  • Karnataka flood UPDATE | As per the last count, nearly 44,000 people have been evacuated from flood-hit and rain-affected areas of Karnataka, where the rain fury has left nine people dead in the past few days.
    The worst-hit was Belagavi district, where six people have lost their lives while 40,180 people have been evacuated by rescue teams comprising Fire and Emergency department, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force and Army.
    The floods and rains have left a trail of destruction in vast areas of north, coastal and Malnad districts of the state. (PTI)
