Police secured the coordinator of the Cauvery River Protection Group N Viswanathan, who is friend of activist RS Mugilan for interrogation on Wednesday. As the questioning continued on Thursday too, it has created ripples among social activists.

The CB-CID sleuths, who secured Viswanathan, a senior citizen, questioned him at their office. Later, they have registered a case against him under IPC section 120 B (Criminal Conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 212 (harbouring offender). Later, they produced him before the Judicial Magistrate Vijaya Karthik and he was ordered to be under judicial custody. Subsequently, he was lodged in the Karur sub jail.
The social activists, who condemned the atrocity by police said, Viswanathan was dragged from his house at 10.30 pm in which he sustained several injuries. “Despite being past 70 years, the police did not show concerns to Viswanathan and the arrest during late night is mere atrocity by the police,” said an activist from Mayanur.
