Over 20% Of Subaru WRX Owners Have Been Ticketed For Speeding

Most drivers admit to speeding, so it comes as little surprise a lot of people have tickets on their driving record.

Insurify used this information to compile a list of the vehicles with the most speeding tickets. While the study looked at over 1.6 million applications for car insurance, it found most speeders didn’t own high-performance cars. Instead, many of the models were fairly mainstream.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the numbers. Coming in first was the Subaru WRX as 20.12% of owners had at least one speeding ticket on their record. That’s nearly twice the average of 11.28%.

The second car was also sporty, but not quite a powerhouse as it’s the old Scion FR-S. 19.09% of owners have at least one speeding ticket on their record.

Continuing down the list is the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Nearly 17% of owners have been ticketed for speeding in the mild hatch which slots between the standard model and the high-performance Golf R.

Fourth place goes to a largely forgotten model, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. While it’s been out of production for a couple of years now, 15.75% of owners have a history of speeding.

As we reach the halfway point, things start to take a turn as the fifth place vehicle was the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Known more for off-roading than speeding, 15.35% of owners have been ticketed in the past.

The sixth place spot also went to an unlikely suspect as the dubious honor went to the Ram 2500. It was the only pickup to crack the top ten as 15.32% owners have been caught going above and beyond – the speed limit.

Continuing the FCA streak is the Dodge Dart. While it had a relatively short life, it appears to be popular with speeders as 14.86% owners have a violation on their record.

The only luxury vehicle on the list was the old Infiniti G37. It came in 8th as 14.72% of owners have a speeding ticket.

While the WRX came in first, the closely related Subaru Impreza was a bit further behind in 9th place. 14.66% of owners have a speeding ticket on their record, nearly a quarter less than the WRX.

Rounding out the top ten is the Hyundai Veloster. It was slightly behind the Impreza as 14.48% of owners have a need for speed.
