Gurugram: Stopped from fleeing, couple tries to run over cop at traffic signal

GURUGRAM: A couple allegedly tried to run over a cop at a traffic signal in Sector 54 on Thursday morning when he stopped their car.
Police said the traffic cop stopped the Honda City belonging to Rahul and his wife Anamika when their car jumped the traffic signal. The car was being driven by their driver.

When the cop asked for the documents, the driver stepped out to show them. Meanwhile, the duo who was sitting in the rear seat of car came to the front seat and tried to flee the spot.
In the statement recorded at the Sector 50 police station, traffic cop Sunil said when he tried to stop the two from fleeing, they tried to run over him. “Anamika drove the car with an intention to kill me on the directions of her husband. The car hit me but I managed to save my life by clinging on to the bonnet of the car. I was dragged for around 50 metres,” said Sunil.
The couple, Sunil alleged, also threatened him, saying “you have been pardoned today but if you ever stop our car again, you will be killed”.
The duo didn’t stop at that. They had to stop the car owing to a parked bike of the traffic police on the road. The couple, police said, then got off the car, hurled abuses at Sunil and thrashed him.
An FIR was registered against both Rahul and Anamika under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) along with sections 186, 332,353, 323,427 and 506.
Anamika is a chartered accountant and Rahul is an engineer, police said.
The two have been arrested and their car has also been confiscated.

Sub inspector Bahadur, who was at the spot, came to Sunil’s rescue. When a few media persons, who gathered there, told the two not to misbehave with the cops, they started hurling abuses at them as well. The couple also allegedly broke the camera of a journalist.
DCP (traffic) Himanshu Garg told TOI that legal proceedings had already been initiated against the two. “This kind of behaviour is unacceptable. We have registered an FIR against the duo. They have been arrested. Further actions will be initiated as per the law,” said Garg.
