Rain continued for the fourth consecutive day in the Nilgiris, as schools and educational institutions remained closed for the third consecutive day in Kundah, Pandalur and Gudalur, and for the second day in Udhagamandalam.
A total of 1,374mm. of rain was recorded till Wednesday morning across the district, with 119 mm. of rain being recorded in Naduvattam, 101 mm. in Glenmorgan, and 405 mm. in Avalanche. Heavy rain continued in Gudalur too, as both Gudalur and Devala received more than 100 mm. of rain, causing damage to roads and crops in the process. Officials said that over the last four days, more than 1,800 mm. of rain was recorded across the district.
Traffic was affected on Udhagamandalam to Gudalur road once again due to trees becoming uprooted, as well as the roads leading from Gudalur to Sultan Bathery in Kerala.
The rain also caused structural damage to revetment walls and buildings. In one such incident, the wall surrounding a government school at Manjanakorai collapsed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Ooty Boat House and Pykara remained closed for the second consecutive day due to the rain, with officials deeming that it was too dangerous for boating. Parts of Udhagamandalam town, especially the low-lying areas became flooded with rain water and intermittent power outages were reported across the district.
