The state government had made it mandatory for NMC to collect garbage user charge of Rs60 per month from residential, Rs90 from commercial followed by other categories. Accordingly, NMC kicked-off the drive to recover charges from 6.5 lakh properties for the month of July.

To encourage the people to pay garbage user charge, health officer (sanitation) Dr Sunil Kamble collected charges from the office bearers including mayor Nanda Jichkar and others on Thursday. NMC collected Rs44,930 on Thursday.
NMC is likely to get revenue of Rs3.50 crore for one month. The revenue can increase manifold if penalties for giving non-segregated garbage, burning of waste and other types of nuisances are implemented.
