Tragedy Strikes After Truck Crashes And Spills 10,000 Bottles Of Beer In Germany

It’s a sad day for beer drinkers all over the world after approximately 10,000 glass bottles of the liquid gold were spilled in a truck crash in the southwest of Germany.

The Independent reports that on Friday, a 53-year-old truck driver crashed while approaching a roundabout near Leutershausen, Bavaria. The truck was carrying 1,280 beer boxes at the time and approximately half of them fell to the road.

It is thought that approximately $13,453 worth of beer was lost in the crash and cleaning up the mess was not easy. In fact, Mannheim police report that volunteer firefighters from two nearby towns and a local civil defense team were tasked with cleaning the road. A blockade and diversion around the roundabout was in place for approximately six hours after the crash.

Authorities say they are investigating the man for not properly securing the beer.

We know that Germans absolutely love their beer (who doesn’t?) and we suspect many of those tasked with cleaning up the road shed a few tears while doing so.

While it’s sad to see so much beer go to waste, the truck driver should be counting his lucky stars that he wasn’t carrying more valuable cargo. Earlier this year, a semi-truck carrying 5500 gallons (20,819 liters) of black printer ink crashed on an interstate highway in Atlanta, Georgia. Printer ink is one of the most expensive liquids on earth and the ink lost in that particular crash could have been worth up to $13 million.
