Maths workshop for parents

Nagpur: Academic workshops for teachers, principals and students are common but a city school held one for parents. Delhi Public School (Kamptee Road) recently held a workshop for parents of Std X students to make them aware of the changes related to math subjects being implemented by CBSE.
Starting from the 2019-2020 academic session, CBSE Std X students will have the option of appearing for an ‘easier’ version of mathematics in their crucial board exams. The easier version, to be officially called Mathematics-Basic, has been introduced keeping in mind suggestions made for exam reforms in a paper that was part of National Curriculum Framework.
Ritu Sharma, principal of DPS (Kamptee Road), said, “Only when the school and the parents work together, the students will be benefited and their performance will enhance.”
She said that parents, as stakeholders in the teaching-learning process, need to be informed regarding the changes introduced by CBSE. Sharma also stressed on the need to inculcate discipline among the students and create a conducive teaching learning atmosphere.

But before students rush to tick the Mathematics-Basic option in their examination form, the downside has to be considered. First and foremost, they will be barred from choosing math at Std XI-XII level. So, if there are any plans for attempting JEE, then students will compulsorily have to appear for Mathematics-Standard option.
Second point to note is that even though a student may have opted for the easy version, the books and classroom teaching will be for regular math course.
