A great woman and one of the top leader of the Bhartiya Janata Party Mrs.Sushma Swaraj passed away around 11.00 pm on August 6 of cardiac arrest. Her husband Mr.Swaraj Kaushal and daughter Bansuri were at her bedside in the AIIMS Hospital Delhi. She was born in 14th February in 1952 at Ambala. In her life of 67 years she was for 37 years in the elected politics of the country out of this for 11 years she was closely connected with Madhya Pradesh once as Rajya Sabha member and twice as Lok Sabha member from the Vidisha seat.
She started her political career from her home state Haryana in 1977 as a member of Haryana Vidhan Sabha at the age of 25 and become Cabinet Minister there. She entered politics in 1977 through the Janata agitation against Emergency of Jaya Prakash Narian. On the disintegration of Janata Party she came in Bhartiya Janata Party and remained on it till her last.
She started her political career from Haryana but closed it at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh as her last election from Vidisha Lok Sabha seat in 2014. In the same in the year 2019 on new election to Lok Sabha she declared that under the compulsion of kidney trouble she would not seek the re-election from Vidisha or elsewhere and would retire from electoral politics on health ground.
Earlier she had been Rajya Sabha member also but this time she declined it also and most of the time this very active and energetic Sushma Swaraj kept confined to home. Her last public office was Minister for External Affairs in the Narendra Modi Government. She in her tenure brought out the Foreign Ministry from VIP culture to the common people.
Wherever any Indian in difficulty in any foreign country contacted her on twitter she immediately directed the Indian Embassy located in that country to reach and help him to come back to India. A girl of Pakistan was in need for heart operation, Mrs.Swaraj promptly brought her to India and she was operated upon at Bengaluru and sent back hale and healthy.
It is one of the great tragedy of the Bhartiya Janata Party that three top leaders suffered grave sickness which forced them to go out of active politics. Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee suffered memory loss and could never return to politics and died in that condition. Mr.Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister and Mrs.Sushma Swaraj Foreign Minister in the Modi Government suffered kidney trouble. Both were forced to leave electoral politics and active political life.
Mr.Arun Jaitley is also confined to his home. Mrs.Swaraj has passed away. Similarly a very active leader of ruling NDA Mr.George Fernandes suffered loss of memory Alzheimer disease and for few years confined to bed and died. During the Congress led UPA regime in its first term of Mr.Arjun Singh was Human Resources Minister but he become so sick that in the 2nd term of UPA Government he was not taken in the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ministry. He died after sometime.
Mr.Sushma Swaraj was once leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. She was known for frontal attack on the Treasury benches and when was on Treasury Bench, she was known for her strong counter attack in Opposition. In brief interlude in 1998 she was Member of Delhi Vidhan Sabha and Chief Minister of Delhi. She was very forceful orator of mass appeal. In her death the country has lost a very very important sharp and polite leader.
