Welfare schemes implementation: Tamil Nadu CM seeks monthly report from collectors

Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday directed district collectors to take up inspection of welfare schemes rolled out by the government and send a report to his office every month.
Palaniswami was speaking at a two-day review meeting held at the Secretariat in which the district collectors and heads of various government departments participated.
At least 16 district collectors took part in the day one of the meeting. The chief minister, deputy CM O Panneerselvam and senior ministers took stock of the basic amenities and kudimaramath (a method of maintaining waterbodies) scheme.
The chief minister pointed to the government’s focus areas, which include kudimaramath, rainwater harvesting, solar powered green houses, public distribution, noon meal and anganwadis, old age pension, drinking water supply in urban and rural areas, maintenance of street lights and health schemes.
Highlighting drinking water shortage in several places due to monsoon failure, the chief minister said he had launched the mission to conserve every drop of rain water, by protecting water bodies and restoring it to the original glory, also preventing pollution and reusing sewage. “I would like to ask you to work actively in the field and demonstrate that the state government strives for the people’s welfare,” he said.

The district administrators should resolve the petitions received during periodical grievance redressal meeting, distribute pattas to those who do not possess one, extend basic amenities to the housing colonies of SC/ST, eradicate plastic waste. They should also look into implementation of Amma two-wheeler scheme, enrolment of students in schools, and agriculture schemes.
“The review meet will take place under my leadership in every four months,” the chief minister said.
