COIMBATORE: Two contract workers died and another suffered injuries when a
railway parcel service office building collapsed at
Coimbatore Railway Junction in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Pavizhamani and Ibrahim of Mettupalayam and the injured has been identified as Raju.
The city received heavy rain in early hours of Thursday. The building collapsed around 3.30am, and three workers caught trapped under the debris.
On being alerted by railway authorities, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot. More than 50 fire and rescue services personnel and Railway Protection Force men were involved in the rescue work.
They rescued three badly injured workers from the debris and rushed them to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared two of them dead. Raju was admitted to the ICU.
