GLADA razes illegal shanties amidst protests

Ludhiana: The officials of Greater Ludhiana area development authority (GLADA) have razed around 150 -200 illegal shanties at its 8 acres of land in sector 38 at Chandigarh Road on Wednesday amidst resentment and protest. A few occupants were resisting the move as they still did not receive allotment letters for flats as promised by GLADA. The encroachers were shifted to flats in Mundian Kalan.
Recently MC had conducted draws for shifting people living in these shanties at this place. They have been rehabilitated in the flats at Mundian Kalan. GLADA officials claimed they were given enough time to shift from the place. SDO of GLADA, Satwinder Singh said that a few people did resent the move and they had to stop the demolition drive but then they made them understand that they will get flats as MC is yet to conduct one draw. He said they had to vacate the land and they became successful in doing the same
