British diplomat hints at possibility of setting up technology hub in Aurangabad
Representational Image AURANGABAD: Crispin Simon, British deputy high commissioner Mumbai and HM trade commissioner for South Asia, indicated a possibility of raising a technology hub funded by the UK government in Aurangabad on lines of the Pune and Bengaluru.
Simon, however, did not make any promises. The diplomat was in city for a meeting with Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA). While speaking to reporters recently Simon highlighted the strengths of India and UK trade relationships. He said that Indian companies figure in top five companies of UK and vice versa.
Talking about the industrial fortes of Aurangabad, Simon said that he was stunned at the quality of factory and highly educated workforce at Shendra based plant of engine manufacturer Perkins. Aurangabad has engineering and manufacturing of 2 wheelers, 3 wheelers and a number of companies producing auto components, he said. "We can consider Aurangabad as potential destination to set up technology hub. In Pune and Bengaluru, the technology hubs are aimed to accelerate startups and to provide exposure to global market," Crispin Simon said.
The British deputy high commissioner for Western India said that the new Prime Minister of UK has set October 31 as the target for leaving European Union. Following the Brexit, the UK-India relationship is expected to grow as UK would be making changes to its visa regime and immigration policy. "EU policies prevented immigration from non-European countries. With the new policy plenty of talent in India can come to the UK," he said.
