Kolkata: Several shanties gutted in fire at Kidderpore

KOLKATA: Several shanties were gutted in a fire, at Kidderpore in West Bengal's capital Kolkata, that had possibly started from a short circuit, because of a hooked electrical connection on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Ten fire tenders took over two hours to bring the blaze beside the elevated circular railway station in Kiddrpore under control.
Fire officials said, the fire started from one of the shanties whose residents had tried to plug in a mobile phone charger in a socket at a spike buster attached to a bamboo shaft. It was raining at that time and the shaft was wet which possibly triggered the short circuit, fire officials suspect.

“The fire spread out in quick time and engulfed one shanty after another which are placed in close contact with each other. However, thankfully no one was injured and all of the residents could be evacuated on time,” said an officer of South Port police station.
Cops said they have started an investigation to find the actual cause of the fire.
