School student gives veena concert to raise funds for autism

CHENNAI: Sahana Ranganathan, a grade 11 Advance Honors Program in JP Stevens High School from New Jersey, USA, has a passion for making a difference in society and particularly in the lives of children with autism. She is raising funds for Chennai-based RASA (Ramana Sunritya Aalaya) through a veena and vocal concert in Chennai on August 10.
Sahana, whose brother has autism, has worked with Girl Scouts, USA and other organizations to help children with disabilities. She has her own blog site sahanaranganathan.blogspot.com that focuses on providing support for the children and siblings of the children with different abilities.
Sahana has been teaching children with different abilities in alliance with Kala Upasana Music and Dance Academy, in New Jersey. In 2017, she raised funds for supporting her autism awareness project through her Bharatanatyam Arangetram performance in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. In recognition of her contributions she has won Silver Award from Girl Scouts, USA.
RASA is an organization that focuses on the holistic development of each individual through experiences of music, dance, drama, storytelling, arts and crafts. Several hundred special needs children benefited from RASA over the past three decades. RASA imparts training to these children free of cost.
The program will be held at Rasika Ranjani Sabha on Saturday, 10 August. This event is open to public and admission is free.
