Jharkhand man held for siphoning off Rs 23 lakh from account of Preneet Kaur

Preneet Kaur informed the cyber cell of the police immediately, who traced the caller to Jharkhand.
DUMKA: Preneet Kaur, Congress MP and wife of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, was duped of Rs 23 lakh in an online fraud last week. Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested a Jharkhand resident in connection with the case and recovered the money from him.
Kaur was in Delhi last week to attend the monsoon session of the Parliament when she received a call from the accused, who was posing as the manager of a State Bank of India branch. The caller sought Kaur’s bank account number, ATM pin and one-time-password (OTP) generated on her mobile phone.
As soon as she shared the details, Kaur got an SMS saying Rs 23 lakh had been withdrawn from her account. She informed the cyber cell of the police immediately, who traced the caller to Jharkhand.
On Wednesday, Punjab Police took custody of Ataul Ansari, a resident of Karmatand village in Jamtara district, from their counterparts in Jharkhand. Ansari had been arrested by local police on Saturday in connection with a separate cybercrime case, said Jamtara SP Anshuman Kumar.
“Ansari was also wanted by Punjab Police in a case lodged with Patiala civil lines police station and we informed them of his arrest,” said Kumar, while not commenting on whether Ansari was taken into remand for siphoning off money from the Congress MP. “Punjab Police had only given us the case number, we had no details about the victim,” he added.

Punjab SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said Ansari was arrested along with a few others and further investigation is on.
