Man lodges complaint against wife for mother’s suicide

Nagpur: Suresh Kamdi, 46, has lodged a complaint against his wife Smita holding her responsible for the suicide of his 75-year-old mother Satyabhama.
Satyabhama had walked out of her home at Shri Hari nagar on July 10 following a domestic feud and then consumed poison near Manewada crematorium. She was found unconscious near the crematorium, around 2.5km from her residence.
It’s learnt Suresh and Smita got married knot around 14 years ago. The couple has a 10-year-old daughter. After marriage, Suresh and Smita used to stay separately at Hingna. Suresh is a co-operative bank employee. Smita too worked at a bank but is a housewife now. Sources said that relations between the two had been bitter since the beginning.
Suresh shifted back to Shri Hari Nagar with Smita and their daughter to stay with his mother in February. It’s learnt that there was a tiff at home over the timing of food being prepared. Satyabhama wanted food to be cooked early as she required to take her medicines. She had suggested that the kitchen may be separated too.
Sources said that Satyabhama told Smita to bring her own gas connection and oven. She shifted the only oven available at home to her room to prepare her own food.

Satyabhama was distraught with the regular bickering. She allegedly consumed rodent killer after which she was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital by police in an unconscious state. After regaining conscious briefly, Satyabhama had told the attending doctor about Smita’s alleged misdemeanour and regular quarrel with her.
Hudkeshwar police had earlier registered a case of accidental death. Following inquiry and statement of the doctor, an offence was registered against Smita for abetting her suicide.
