LUDHIANA: Police arrested five persons after they attacked a police party and injured few cops during a ruckus at Civil Hospital at
Hathur village in Punjab's Ludhiana district on Wednesday evening.
The accused were identified as Mohan Singh, Kulwant Singh, Bahadur Singh, Amandeep Singh and Jatinder Singh. The other accused included Makhan Singh and Jasvir Singh while seven to eight accused are unidentified.
Hathur police were informed by a doctor at the Civil Hospital that a group of 30 to 40 miscreants were creating ruckus at the hospital. They added that a police team led by ASI
Manohar Singh left for the spot and tried to persuade the group not to indulge in such activities at the hospital.
Cops said that instead of paying heed to the requests by police, the miscreants continued with hooliganism and instead attacked the police party with sticks and rods. They added that during the attack, ASI Manohar Lal and sepoy Jatinder Singh suffered injuries after being beaten up by the group.
Police later booked the accused under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC).
