CHANDIGARH: A 28-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in
Sector 45 on Wednesday afternoon. His body has been kept in a mortuary for autopsy.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Iqbal Singh, a resident of Barnala, Punjab. Iqbal reached city on Tuesday and was staying in Diamond Hotel at Burail, Sector 45. Hotel staff told Sector 34 police that Iqbal had booked the room for one day and was supposed to check out on Wednesday at around 12.30pm. However, he did not come out of his room till 2 pm following which hotel staff knocked at his door, but did not get any response from inside.
The hotel staff then opened the door using a duplicate key, and found him lying unconscious on the floor. They informed police about the incident after which a PCR rushed him to GMCH-32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police did not recover any suicide note from the crime scene. Sector-34 police said they recovered banned medicines and a syrup bottle from the hotel room. Police said he might have died due to drug overdose. Blood was found to be oozing from nose and mouth of the victim. However, the exact cause of the death can be ascertained only after the postmortem reports.
Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh, also reached the spot and collected evidences from the crime scene.
Sector 34 police have registered a case under the Section 174 of CrPC and initiated inquest proceedings in the matter. Police said they have been investigating the matter from all angles.
Deceased's father works as a head constable in Punjab Police.
