THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Active intervention and follow-up by the district Pink Police team helped in uniting an 87-year-old woman, suffering from Alzheimer's and had lost the way, with her family members.
The woman from Nalumukku was found roaming at Pallimukku near Pettah in the morning.
Her distressed look and inability to answer basic questions aroused suspicion among local residents. As the woman was well dressed and wearing gold ornaments, local residents suspected that she might have either separated from relatives accidentally or left home absent-mindedly.
One of the locals rang up the Pink Police. A message about the woman was passed to all the police stations by the Pink Police team.
A team of women cops led by SI Raziya Beegum rushed to Pallimukku and brought the woman to women's police station at Cantonment. An officer with the patrol team said the woman was suffering from acute dementia.
"She could only say her name and age and she recalled the name of her son," said the officer. The pink patrol team soon conveyed those details to all stations.
By evening, the woman's son approached Vanchiyoor police station with a man missing complaint. He had frantically searched the neighbourhood of his Kaithamukku house before deciding to lodge the complaint.
The Vanchiyoor police showed him the photo of the woman with the Pink Police and he could identify his mother.

"Since there is a considerable distance between Kaithamukku and Pallimukk, we believe that she must have lost her way and continued to walk aimlessly. Her son said that he was frantically searching for his mother since morning," said the police officer.
The pink patrol team then reached the Vanchiyoor station with the woman and united her with the son. The woman could identify her son and expressed thankfulness for the help.
