AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old man on Wednesday evening slit the throat of an 18-year-old girl in Chandlodia, because she had rejected his romantic advances, police officials said.
Inspector D H Gadhvi of Sola high court police said the incident took place when the girl, Nidhi Panchal, a resident of Sonalnagar in Chandlodia, was returning home from her coaching class. The accused, Mihir Chaudhari, resident of the same area, accosted her and started talking to her aggressively.

The accused was rescued by traffic constables from the mob and taken to the second floor of a nearby pharmacy
According to Panchal's friends, they exchanged heated words for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, Chaudhari pulled out a bladed weapon, grabbed Nidhi by her hair and slit her throat.
Chaudhari then may have got scared, and tried to get her to a hospital. CCTV footage from the area shows him holding her and walking towards the road. He then tries to catch an autorickshaw to a nearby hospital.
A crowd rushed at Chaudhari, apprehending that he was abducting her or trying to kill her, said a police officer.
People then began beating Chaudhari. Two traffic constables freed Chaudhari from the mob and took him to the second floor of a nearby pharmacy. They then called Sola high court police station.

Bystanders took the girl to Sola Civil Hospital in an ambulance. Two officials of Sola high court police, meanwhile, took Chaudhari into custody.
