PUNE: As many as 185 human lives have been lost and 200 people injured in Maharashtra this monsoon, from June 3 to August 5, because of heavy rain and flood-related incidents, among other reasons.

This was revealed in a situation report released by the Disaster Management Division (National Emergency Response Centre) under the ministry of home affairs on Monday. The deaths mentioned are due to causes like lightning, fire, flood, accidental drowning, structure collapse and tree fall.
The maximum deaths have been caused by structure collapse, followed by other rain-related causes. Till August 1, the death toll during the rainy season was at 174 and the number of injured at 177.
Three people have died so far due to electrocution. The number of districts affected by the flood and rains in Maharashtra so far this monsoon is 22 and 50 villages have been hit.

In Pune district, two persons in Maval taluka died and two persons were injured in wall collapses from August 4 to 6. District disaster management authority reports revealed that a woman in Purandar was washed away by floodwaters recently, while one woman was killed and two children were injured in a wall collapse in Junnar.
The situation report said 16 teams of NDRF have been deployed, 1,795 people evacuated and six retrieved till August 5.
