For uninterrupted water supply in capital city, Kochi

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has decided to hold a conference of contractors as part of implementing a ₹2,500-crore Asian Development Bank-funded scheme to improve water supply in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi cities.

The conference will be held at Hotel Mascot in the State capital on August 14, the KWA said. The water utility has invited contractors with experience in implementing 24x7 water supply schemes and those who wish to know more about the proposal to attend the conference.

Replacement of pipes

Under the scheme, for which a formal agreement is yet to be inked, the KWA envisages uninterrupted water supply in the two cities 24x7, replacement of old leaky pipes and the installation of pressure-regulation equipment and flow meters.

The creation of District Metering Areas (DMA) in the distribution network is a major component. This is expected to improve the efficiency of water supply and, ultimately, bring down Non Revenue Water (NRW) — water lost in distribution — below the targeted 20%. Installation of smart meters and IT-based supply network management systems are also envisaged. It is expected that the scheme will be completed in seven years.

Contractors who wish to attend the meet should email details to pmuadbkwa@gmail.com. For details, call 0471-2321375.
