BENGALURU: A city-based music band comprising techies was reportedly attacked for not playing
Kannada songs during a performance at
Phoenix MarketCity in Whitefield on Friday. A member has suffered eye injury.
Trouble began when two persons, said to be in an inebriated condition, started demanding that members of the band, Musication, sing
Kannada songs when they were packing up for the day at 8.45pm. They couldn't fulfil the request as the instruments had been unplugged and the performance time was over. But, the duo insisted the sound systems be fixed and singing be resumed.
Band member Somnath said: "We asked them to approach the mall staff. But the latter created a ruckus and hit us with the mike stand. Another member of the band, Anubhav, took out his mobile phone to record the attack, which infuriated the duo. Soon, 10-12 people joined them in the attack. They smashed Anubhav's cellphone. By then, mall security personnel came to our rescue and the gang fled."
The band wrote on its Facebook page: " The reason we were attacked was not playing Kannada songs whereas we always try to play one or 2 Kannada/regional songs in our setlist for our love of regional music and we did the same that day as well."
"We had already played Kannada songs (Munjane Manjalli from the film Just Maath Maathalli). We don't know why they attacked us," said Anubhav. The band members are software professionals who formed the group two years ago.
