Cape Town - Virat Kohli praised the performance of Rishabh Pant as India wrapped up a T20I series whitewash against West Indies in Guyana on Tuesday.
Pant struck unbeaten 65 off just 42 balls as the Asian team beat the hosts by seven wickets to clinch a 3-0 series victory in the shortest format.
The 21-year-old Pant had not contributed much in the previous two encounters - scoring 0 and 4 - but his skipper was pleased with they way the left-handed batsman saw the game out until the finish.
India eventually chased down a target of 147 and won with five balls to spare with Pant hitting the winning runs.
Kohli said about Pant after the game: "For the first two games, he was disappointed that he didn't get any runs.
"He was playing really well, hitting the ball really well, but that's how T20 cricket goes.
"Sometimes you don't have the rub of the green. But today he made
sure he applied himself and batted to his skills and backed himself to
hit the big shots when required and really played with the tempo of the
innings," he said.
"He's got a lot of skill and talent. (But) it's about winning and finishing games like these and gaining confidence, which he wants to do as well."
India and the Windies will now get ready for a three-match ODI series that starts in Guyana on Thursday.
