MUMBAI: Two women labourers died after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while working at a fabric manufacturing unit at Boisar MIDC on Monday.
Jhumli Mavi (45) and Varsha Mavi (18) had been assigned the task of cleaning the boiler. The other workers went looking for them when they were not seen during lunch time. The two were found lying unconscious. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead on admission.

The two victims were reportedly not wearing safety gear which is a must while cleaning the boiler, said the police. Preliminary investigations suggest they inhaled the toxic monoxide gas. The two had come from Uttar Pradesh looking for work, and had joined Valiant Glass Pvt Ltd only a few months ago.
Directorate of Industrial Safety (DISH) officials visited the unit and sealed it. The bodies were sent for autopsy. The police said they will wait for the autopsy and DISH reports before taking action against the factory owners.
