AHMEDABAD: The city crime branch on Tuesday arrested Suresh alias Banshi Rajgor, 37, for cheating a
Rajasthan sweetmeat dealer of Rs 54 lakh on July 22. Rajgor had promised the victim 2kg gold at a rate 10% lower than the market price.
Rajgor, a resident of Maska village in Mandavi taluka of Kutch district, was arrested from Pali in Rajasthan. Later, his custody was given to
Sarkhej police where the offence was registered against him.
Rajgor had taken money from Ramniranjan Saini, 40, a resident of Lakshmangadh in Sikar district of Rajasthan, said sub-inspector D D Chudasama of Sarkhej police.
According to the FIR, Saini had come into contact with Sumit Narang of Delhi a month ago on Facebook. One day, Saini saw gold biscuits in the profile picture of Narang and inquired about them. Narang told him that he sells gold biscuits at 10% discount.
Saini expressed his desire to buy the gold biscuits. Narang asked Saini to come to Ahmedabad and examine the samples for himself. Saini along with his friend came to Ahmedabad in July and met Rajgor who had introduced himself as Narang’s aide. who Rajgor showed them a few gold biscuits. Saini found the gold biscuits genuine and said he would make a purchase.
On July 22, Saini again came to Ahmedabad, this time with Rs 54 lakh to buy 2kg gold biscuits. Rajgor asked him to come to a dhaba near SP Ring Road with the money. Rajgor came there in a white sedan and took the money from Saini. He told Saini that gold was in another car. After a few minutes, another car arrived. Rajgor indicated to Saini to go towards that car to collect the gold.
Rajgor, Saini and Saini’s friend moved towards that car when Rajgor swiftly sat got into the first car and the driver sped away. Saini had then filed an FIR with Sarkhej police.
