CHENNAI: The city is likely to be cloudy because of the effects of a depression that has formed over the Bay of Bengal near the
Odisha coast. Chances of rain, however, are slim.
"The system will not have any direct impact to cause rain in Chennai, but will bring clouds over the city. This is expected to bring down the day temperature," a Met official said.
Winds at the lower level will reach till the depression and blow back to the south coast. "In the process, it will bring some rain in the city but there is no chance of heavy rain. It will also bring some clouds from the depression area which will lead to cloudy sky over the city in the next two days," the official said.
This is like a cycle. "After the depression dissipates, another will form in the north near Bengal. This will make the city cloudy again, but there may not be good rain," he said.
Private weather blogger Pradeep John said in a post that high winds and fast moving clouds will be the pattern, and rain spells like the ones in the southern suburbs yesterday are possible in the coming days. "The spells after August 10 look good and above normal rains are expected in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai in those spells between August 10 to 20," he said.
The city received isolated rain in some parts. Nungambakkam recorded 0.2mm and Meenambakkam recorded 1.4mm rain on Tuesday. There was good rain on Monday night, especially in the suburbs. Kattankulathur got 25mm, Kancheepuram got 21mm, Chengalpet got 13mm, Maduranthagam got 6mm, Sholinganallur got 5mm.
