MUMBAI: The Worli-based stray dog, Lucky, who was brutally beaten up for taking shelter from the rains inside a building near
Nehru Planetarium, passed away at the Crown Vet hospital on Wednesday morning.
Saddened by his demise, several animal activists have again demanded stronger animal protection laws in order to stop such inhuman brutalities, as has happened in Lucky's case.
The animal was beaten up with sticks inside Turf View building in
Worli on July 24, causing paralysis and internal injuries to the dog. An FIR was later lodged at the Worli police station. Many film stars and celebrities were also shocked by this extreme animal cruelty and lent their support for Lucky on social networking sites. These included John Abraham,
Sonam Kapoor, Tara Sharma Saluja, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arati Surendranath, Kailash Surendranath, Shobha De, among others.
"It is very sad that Lucky could not survive the attack. We all must seek better
animal rights laws to prevent such atrocities. May Lucky's soul eternally rest in peace," commented the honorary advisor to the
Maharashtra State Animal Welfare Board, Meet Ashar.
Recently, several hundreds of animal lovers and activists had taken out a huge protest demonstration in Worli to condemn the attack on Lucky.
