Run discos after midnight, face FIR: Mohali SSP

MOHALI: After the killing incident of a Punjab Police commando posted with Chief Minister's security, Mohali police are acting tough with discotheques and night clubs operating after midnight. Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal has issued orders to register an FIR against the owners of a disco found operating at 12.15am and after.
SSP Chahal said, "Now, the orders are very clear and straightforward. Register FIR against owners of discos found operating even at 12.15am. There will be no laxity and the orders are to be followed religiously by every SHO. Cancellation of operating and liquor licences will also be recommended against those discos found operating late. The role of an SHO will also be under scanner if any disco is found operating under his jurisdiction after midnight."
He further said recent suspension of the SHO is an example for other police officers to face department action with regard to dereliction of the duties.
A day after the incident, district magistrate (DM) prohibited discotheques, pubs and other such establishments not to be operational beyond midnight. District magistrate-cum-deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan while exercising his powers under Section 144 of the CrPC had issued prohibitory orders for discotheques, pubs, night clubs and other such establishments to remain operational till late night (beyond midnight).

District magistrate stated that in view of the inconvenience to general public, these types of establishments have been strictly prohibited to remain operational between 12am to 6am in the jurisdiction of the district. These orders will remain in force till October 3.
He further said no establishment shall run their business without a valid licence. The owners of these businesses shall be responsible for the premises as far as abiding by the NDPS Act, instructions, laws, which are applicable to their businesses, are concerned. He said the management and the security deployed by the owner shall be made aware and asked to make ensure that nobody takes any such substance, which is in violation of the NDPS Act, 1985 or any weapon inside the premises. If any person enters such a premises with prohibitory items and the fact comes to the knowledge of the owner, the information shall be immediately shared with the local police.
