Punagam electrocution: Accused DGVCL officers get anticipatory bail

Surat: Two Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) officials, who are accused in the tragic death of a 20-year-old girl in Punagam on June 28, were arrested after they surrendered over a month after the incident.
The duo presented themselves in Puna police station after obtaining anticipatory bail local court, police informed.
Following their arrest to complete formalities, they were released on bail by the police.
The incident where victim Kajal Chavda got electrocuted after she touched a live street light pole accidentally while trying to skirt around a puddle sent shock-waves across the city.
In a glaring case of another instance of utter negligence by DGVCL, a month after the Takshashila Arcade tragedy, the miffed residents of the city demanded immediate action on the errant officials.
Police arrested Kanti Patel, 57, deputy engineer of DGVCL and Sunny Madhvi, 34, junior engineer, were arrested by the police.
The accused have been asked to remain present on Thursday and cooperate in the investigation. “Police may seek their custody from court for further investigation,” said a police officer at Punagam police station.
About the delay in arrest, police said that the accused were on run and police were still closing in on them.
“They might have got a hint of their impending arrest due to which they escaped,” cops added.

The accused were booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder following complaint of the girl’s father.
The ‘live’ pole posed a grave threat to many unsuspecting lives.
